Getting Ready for School

It's almost that time. We are all thinking about getting the kids ready to get back into the routine of school. School shopping, calendar checks, and more start to take precedence. It seems like just a few days ago we were talking about summer time plans, vacations, and getaways. While the joys of summer time freedom will soon come to a close, we should all be enjoying these last few weeks of unstructured days and times. When school starts- we become slaves to the bell!

In preparation for getting the back to school clock reset, I urge each of us to rejuvenate and recharge that battery of focus and purpose of why we do what we do as educators. I urge parents to think about the true purpose of education in your child's life- regardless of his or her age or grade. Education is the foundation of each our lives. It is through education that we can become who we are. We have to remain focused and committed to making sure that our kids maximize every opportunity available to them. We must commit to knowing what is going on in their educational lives, in and out of the schoolhouse, knowing who is educating our kids within the four walls of that classroom, and knowing who is leading the vision of the schoolhouse where the kids spend most of the hours in their day. We must commit to being involved- truly involved- asking questions, showing up, being present. A new school year is very, very close. Let's commit to education in a new way this year- see you at Meet the Teacher Night. Education is our Freedom!
